The White Sand Dive Team is growing, so you’ll be seeing a few new faces on deck. First up; let me introduce you to our newest SSI Instructor, Natalie, who’s also from the UK. With a BSc(Hons) Degree in Marine Biology & Costal Ecology, Natz is our onboard Marine Biologist who is happy to answer any questions about the local marine life.
What got you into diving, Natz?
I grew up in an agricultural area which was actually really far from the Sea but my Father, and his side of the family, all have degrees in Zoology or are vets. When on holiday in Egypt I went for my first Try Dive and it inspired me, along with my fathers fascination with the Sea, to study Marine Biology at degree level. Whilst studying I also undertook my Divemaster with PADI and my Instructor Coursewith SSI, which has allowed me to travel the world, and wake up everyday excited to go to work.
Where have you dived around the world?
As I said previously I have dived in Egypt, several times now, including the Blue Hole in Dahab. I have also dived in Madagascar and the Seychelles, whilst undertaking Conservation projects. I’ve predominantly dived in UK waters as this is where I did my training, and worked for several years, but I have also dived in areas across Europe such as Crete, and further a field in areas across South Africa.
Where in the world is your favourite dive spot so far?
This is such a difficult question. Every dive site is different, and every body of water has its own challenges….so I am not able to answer this question, as there are several spots I would love to go back to.
Where would you still like to go diving that you haven’t been yet?
There are SO many places that I would still love to dive! Raja Ampat in Indonesia, Silfra in Iceland (Diving between North American and Eurasian Continental plates), The Galapagos Islands, Truk Lagoon Indonesia and Scapaflow, Scotland.
These are just a few of the areas I would love to dive, but there are just too many to write about!!!
What brought you to the Cayman Islands?
Annabelle! She was working for White Sand Watersports,I went to University and also worked at the Dive Centre with Annabelle in the UK, so when they needed staff she let me know and here I am!
What do you love about Cayman diving?
Its so warm!!!!! The water here is beautiful, but there is still a lot of diversity under the water. However, I think one of my favourite things here is the topography of the sites. There are so many swim throughs, canyons and caves to explore – the wall is pretty impressive as well.
Hopefully you enjoyed getting to know one of our new staff members, now it’s time to actually meet her. Book your next diving adventure with Natz by e-mailing us firstname.lastname@example.org or calling us on +1(345)936-7263.
